Mental Health Awareness

February 11, 2019

Where did the time go? It feels like 2018 started yesterday and yet so many things have come to pass. New laws, new music, advancements in technology, etc. Now that 2019 is here, it’s time to sit down and see how you are doing so far with your short term and long term goals. You know, eating right, going to the gym more, time management. Don’t forget to add, maintaining your mental health to the list.

“Why?” You may ask. At the end of the day, it comes down to this. Your mind controls your body and if you have negative thoughts constantly going through your mind in time, your body will follow. At the end of the day it comes down to making sure that little voice in your head speaks positivity into your life. “Yes, you can!” “Don’t worry, you got this!” You’d be surprised to learn just how much that little voice in your head has control over your entire body.

Now you may ask, “Who suffers from mental health issues? Research has show that college students from ages 18-21 find themselves dealing with anxiety and depression. Also people in their mid-40’s are more than likely to suffer from anxiety, clinical depression, post traumatic stress disorder, etc. Therefore, people who suffer from these mental illnesses along with other mental illnesses should definitely seek professional help.

So what can be done to help? When it comes down to it, mental illness cannot be seen with the naked eye. So many people walk around with mental disorders that go undiagnosed because they are not readily identifiable. Or some people can go about their day not realizing that something is wrong. Communication become key in the determination of whether someone has a mental illness. Dealing with something that cannot be seen right away makes it difficult to identify but even harder to accept.
