Celebrate National Friend Day With A Gesture!

August 2, 2019

August 4th is national Friend day, and we want you to celebrate this momentous day by sending your friends a Gesture.

The History Behind National Friend Day.

National Friendship Day, originally founded by Hallmark in 1919, was supposed to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending each other cards. Then in the coming years, things get a little dicey on Hallmarks end with upholding the yearly tradition. Though, skip a few years and in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations.

Then come April 2011, the United Nations officially recognized 30th July as International Friends Day! Now you might be scratching your head as to why we are talking about National Friend day in August. Well, even though the technical day is July 30th, most countries celebrate National Friend day the first Sunday of August.

How Should You Celebrate N-F-D?

So, now that you have a little bit of a background on the history of Friends day, let's get into the groove of sending your buddies a nice Gesture. Of course you're probably thinking that you don't need to send a Gesture because you'll be seeing your friends that day. Which, is probably true for the most of you and that is fantastic!

But for those of you who have schedules that are too full for Friend's day, or just anyone who just wants to send a little something extra to those special individuals in your life. Why not go ahead and Gesture them a bottle of wine, or a bouquet of flowers.

Believe it or not, we still encourage you to send them something even if you're seeing them today! Just imagine before your plans for the day or evening, would it be for your friends to be surprised with a beautiful Gesture.

Don't let Winnie the Pooh down this National Friends Day. Download Gesture and send your friends some love.
